OKADA MEN VS IGBO TRADERS: About what happened in Abuja yesterday.

There was a serious riot yesterday which led to the destruction of a market predominantly owned by Igbo traders in the Dei Dei axis of Abuja.
Multiple sources claim the riot was a clash between Okada men and Igbo traders in the timber market.
It all began when a woman fell off an Okada that was moving on the highway and was crushed to death by a moving vehicle. This angered a mob of Igbo traders who saw the incident and they immediately set the motorcycle on fire.
The Okada men (predominantly northerners) are reported to have mobilized themselves in large numbers and attacked the traders; burning down a section of the Timber market owned by Igbo traders. BBC Pidgin also reports that almost 50 vehicles were destroyed as well.
Now, I would want us to reason.
How much is the cost of the motorcycle that was first burnt? Let’s say N150,000. How much is the worth of the goods destroyed? Millions. What about the shops? What about the cost of the cars? Everything will run into billions, right? What about the cost of the human life that was crushed in the accident? All because of a N150,000 motorcycle.
You see, the attacks on Igbos and their businesses in the north are becoming something we cannot keep quiet about anymore. I mean, this nation is a marriage, and when the minority who happen to be the wife are constantly being abused at every slight mistake, then we have to rethink.
Why attack Igbo shops and traders at the slightest opportunity?
In Sokoto state, just 4 days ago when Sokoto youths protested for the release of the killers of Deborah, shops belonging to Igbos were looted and destroyed. Sadly, Deborah is not even an Igbo girl. She is from Niger state; a northern state. What then dragged Igbos into the issue? Oh, they are Christians, right?
Could the attacks be a retaliatory action to what gunmen have done to many northerners in some parts of the southeast? Because in this domestic violence issue, we the wives are not also innocent. The lives of many innocent Northerners have been wasted by gunmen in many parts of the southeast, making doing business in our region difficult for the northerners too.
Living outside your region is gradually trying to be included among 1,000 Ways to Die. It is time to sit down and re-bless this marriage.
Maybe the 1914 marriage was done out of youthful exuberance and triggered by Konji. Now we are mature, I’m not calling for a divorce, but a renewing of vows, terms, and conditions. We can’t continue acting like all is well and trying to bandage this country to hand over to whoever wins the next election. Elections are important, but dead men don’t vote and there are no polling units in war zones.
