The senator representing Abia South senatorial district/Senate Minority leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe has revealed why pensioners in Abia State are being owed.
According to the Senator who is also an aspirant in the Abia 2023 governorship race under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the pensioners are not being owed because the state has no money but because relevant authorities pocket the funds.
Abaribe stated this on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 during his governorship consultation trip to Bende Local Government Area.
Addressing PDP stakeholders and delegates in Bende, Abaribe noted that he supports zoning, however, it must be based on capability and integrity.
“I support zoning but my problem is that the zoning I want is zoning to capability, capacity, integrity and people who will do something for you.”
“How can we be in this state and pensioners are not being paid? It’s not because this state is not good; it’s not because we don’t have money. How can anybody tell us that Ebonyi state has a higher internally generated revenue than Abia state? It’s not true. It is because when it comes, they eat it.”
“I have come today to tell you that it is your decision to make. Nobody should say he/she was called that system has spoken. No more system. Nobody will say it was done in Abuja. I am the Abuja. Delegates, Abuja is telling you that power is in your hands.”
He described Abia as the pride of Igboland which every successful man has a root in. However, he regretted that Aba, the commercial city, has been reduced to a state that the people are no longer proud to identify themselves with the city.
“Are you proud of Aba? Instead of making that place our priority we are gallivanting” Abaribe added.
He assured that democracy will be rooted in Abia state and the people will make their decisions.
The governorship hopeful also appealed to the party to send him, assuring that they will not regret.
“send me, you will not regret it”.
