Imagine 001 as a rapper. Hahaha.🤣
US-born Senegalese rapper, Akon, has revealed how Nigeria music star, David Adeleke, aka Davido, wanted to be a rapper until he asked him to quit rap and go back home.
David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter and record producer.
His music blends traditional African elements with global mainstream pop.
David was born on 21 November 1992, in Atlanta, Georgia. His father Adedeji Adeleke is a business magnate and his late mother Vero Adeleke was a university lecturer.
On the other hand, Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam, known mononymously as Akon, is a Senegalese-American singer, record producer, and entrepreneur.
He rose to prominence in 2004 following the release of “Locked Up“, the first single from his debut album Trouble, followed by the second single “Lonely“.
Akon discussed his relationship with Davido, noting that the music star started his trade in Atlanta, United States, before relocating to Nigeria.
“At the time I was pushing ‘Thug Record’, Davido was in Atlanta trying to be a rapper. I told him, n*gga you better move back to Africa & do your music over there. He listened & went back home. Today, he’s one of the biggest Afrobeats artistes”.
He said this during an interview with The Breakfast Club crew on US radio, Power 105.1, while discussing his new project.
